Where it goes

A typical layout on a pickup: each board sits near what it reads or drives, and talks to a Hardwire PDM28 over one CAN bus. Tap a number for board details.

Bus notes

  • One bus: PDM28 CAN1, 250 kbit/s, 29-bit (extended) IDs.
  • CAN IDs: SR5 0x18FFA020-0x18FFA06F; VR2 0x18FFB020 / 0x18FFB030; RIO 0x18FFA070-0x18FFA0FF.
  • An ID switch (0-3) on each board allows up to 4 of each board type per vehicle.
  • 120 ohm termination at the two physical ends of the bus only. Board termination jumpers are open by default.
  • Power: SR5 and VR2 on ignition 12 V; RIO-L on a 20 A PDM output; RIO-P on a direct battery feed (6 AWG, 80 A fuse, stud), not a PDM output.

Illustrative only. Actual mounting depends on your build.

Board by board

1. C2C-SR5 Prototype

5V sensor reference / sensor-to-CAN

Where it mounts
Engine bay or firewall
Connects to
Analog sensors such as oil pressure, fuel pressure and temperature senders
Power
Ignition 12 V
CAN IDs
0x18FFA020-0x18FFA06F
Why it helps
Gives sensors a 5V reference and puts their readings on CAN, so they don't each need a long run back to the PDM or dash.

2. C2C-VR2 Prototype

2-channel VR / Hall to CAN

Where it mounts
Near the engine or transmission
Connects to
Generic VR or Hall sensors (e.g. a transmission speed sensor)
Power
Ignition 12 V
CAN IDs
0x18FFB020 / 0x18FFB030
Why it helps
Sends each channel on CAN as rpm, speed or frequency. Not an ECU timing input.

3. C2C-RIO-P Concept

Rear I/O - fuel pump

Where it mounts
Near the fuel tank
Connects to
Fuel pump(s)
Power
Direct battery feed: 6 AWG, 80 A fuse, stud (not a PDM output)
CAN IDs
0x18FFA070-0x18FFA0FF (RIO range)
Why it helps
PWM pump control commanded over CAN close to the tank, e.g. for dual-pump returnless setups.
Board details →
4. C2C-RIO-L Concept

Rear I/O - lighting

Where it mounts
Rear of the frame or bed
Connects to
Tail, brake, turn and reverse lights
Power
20 A PDM output
CAN IDs
0x18FFA070-0x18FFA0FF (RIO range)
Why it helps
Lighting is commanded over CAN, so CAN plus one power feed replaces a long front-to-back lighting harness.
